Munnar is also called as the “Kashmir of South India”. Best time to visit
Like all the other famous tourist destinations in Kerala the Munnar’s tourist season begins from August and continues to March. It has a summer season in April to May when tourists come to this cool hill station in the plains to escape the heat however unlike other destinations. During the monsoon season, from June to July Munnar is less crowded.

PLACES TO VISIT

Tata Tea Museum
From the tea sapling to an automated tea factory, this museum has photographs and curios which trace that evolution and growth of tea plantations in Munnar right where it is processes which is located at the Nallathanni estate. First of its kind in India is the tata tea Museum. A majestic place to visit in Munnar town is Tea museum. One of the most famous hill stations and the epicenter of tea trader in Kerala is Tea Musuem which is a fitting tribute to the efforts put on by the initial planters in transforming.

Blossom Park
This international park is spreads over 16 acres. You can enjoy the activities such as boating; roller skating and cycling as well as meditation and Hammocks caves is Blossom Park that situated near the Pallivasal hydro- electric project. An ideal picnic spot for family holiday is Blossom Park. A peaceful location to enjoy a relaxing and calm nature walk admiring flowers and hillside of surrounding green is Blossom Park. Pothamedu Viewpoint
Set amidst coffee and tea plantations and undulating hills is Pothamedu Viewpoint which is located around 6 km away from Munnar. One of the most wonderful viewpoints in Munnar is Pothamedu Viewpoint which is situated on Bisonvalley road. From the viewpoint of Pothamedu you can watch the beauty of the Munnar mist which is engulfing the green hills. A perfect place for visitors who was the photography lover is Pothamedu Viewpoint. A beautiful place to spend sometime in the nature’s lap with great views is the Pothamedu Viewpoint.

Attukal Waterfalls
A charming spot frequented by tourists as well as locals is waterfall of Attukal which is situated between Pallivasal and Munnar. Attukal Waterfall can be reached through a narrow wooden bridge which is set amidst dense jungles and undulating terrains. It is just a stream of trickling mountain during other season. Also the site is an ideal for hiking and trekking besides its natural splendor.

Top station
The highest point in Munnar is “Top Station” which is situated in the Kannan Devan Hills. One of the best tourist places of Munnar and among the prime place to visit on a tour of Munnar is Top station. You require being very lucky to reach top station without the fog when the sky is clear if you are visiting Munnar. From Top Station the Theni Valley is simply scenic and the majestic view of the Western Ghats. The most famous for the rare Neelakurinji plants is Top Station which is most captivating spot and envelope the hills in a color of bright blue.

Kundala Lake
A scenic lake is Kundala Lake is Kundala Lake which is situated on en route to Top Station from Munnar at a distance of 20 km from Munnar. An artificial reservoir of a minor arch shaped dam handled between the ranges of mountain is Kundala Lake. Among the major tourist attractions of Munnar is Kundala Dam Lake which is situated about 21 km from Munnar. One can enjoy the lush green surroundings from its top. It is known for Kundala Lake and the Sethuparvati Dam or Kundala Arch Dam and is surrounded by valleys of dense forests and rolling hills.

Mattupetty Dam
One of the most picturesque places in Munnar is Mattupetty Dam which is situated on Road of Top Station. This place is also popular for the Indo- Swiss Farm. One can enjoy scenic views of the lush green surroundings from its top. The pretty lake where visitors can enjoy a pedal boat ride and Kashmiri Shikara is an adjoining to this splendid dam. An idyllic place to enjoy the nature of serene is reservoir of Mattupetty. A memorable and great experience is boating in the Mattupetty Lake.

Rajamalai, Eravikulam National Park
One of the top things to do in Munnar and also another famous attraction is Rajamali, Eravikulam National Park. The natural habitat of this rare mountain goat that’s facing extinction is Eravikulam National Park which is a sanctuary located in Munnar to protect the endangered Nilgiri Tahr. In 1978 it was declared as a National Park considering the geo- morphological, ecological, zoological significance, faunal and floral. The natural habitat of the Nilgiri Tahr is Rajamala, Eravikulam National Park.

Marayoor Dolmens
The only place in Kerala is Marayoor which is famous for natural forest of sandal wood. Malayalam the dolmens are called as dwelling or Muniyaras places of the Sadhus and Marayoor dates back to the Stone Age. One of the top sightseeing places in Munnar is Marayoor Dolmens. This place is also popular for ancient rock paintings which are located in Manala, Attala and Ezhuthu Guha apart from Dolmens. The most popular rock art site in Kerala and attracts a large number of visitors is Marayoor. A new rock painting has been newly discovered in close proximity to this site of art.

Anamudi Peak
One of the most enchanting sights in Munnar is Anamudi Peak which is the highest peak in the South India and Western Ghats. One of the best trekking destinations in Munnar is Anamudi Peak. This place is also popular for Kurunji flowers which blossom only one time in 12 years. Before beginning the trek to Anamudi peak taking prior permission is mandatory from wildlife authorities. If you love to explore something adventurous as it is the highest point in India outside Himalayas is Anamudi Peak which offers many activities and is ideal for trekking.

Lock Hart Gap
An ideal part for adventure activities and adventure trekking is Lock hart Gap which is situated close to Mattupetty. One of the most scenic places in Munnar is Lock hart Gap which is situated on Munnar. One of the must visit place in Munnar is Lock hart gap which gives a panoramic views of the valleys and mountains of Munnar. Tourist spot is Lock hart gap has mist clad hill of tea garden, panoramic view of valleys and fresh mountain air in Munnar.

Lakkom Water Falls
Around Munnar one of the beautiful tourist attraction and famous falls is Lakkam Waterfalls. En route to Udumalaipettai, Lakkom waterfalls is about 25 km from Munnar. Part of Eravikulam National Park is Lakkom Waterfalls. The picturesque surroundings and waterfall of the cascading that’s make it tourist’s favorite hideout in Munnar. The waterfall is originated in the Eravikulam National Park which is formed by Eravikulam Stream. This scenic and wide waterfall is situated with a height of over 50 feet in dense forest.

Cheeyapara Waterfalls
En route to Munnar before Adimali and after Neriamangalam and flows down in step of seven making a best view from the road near the second step from bottom are Cheeyappara Falls. One of the most wonderful waterfalls in Kerala is Cheeyappara Waterfalls which cascading down in 7 steps. A best place for trekking is Cheeyappara Waterfalls. Near this place another waterfall is Valara which is enclosed by jungle of dense natural.

Meesapulimala
Trekking of Meesapulimala will be a fine activity to do in Munnar if you are into hiking. Meesapulimala is the second highest peak in the Ghat of Western which is located in the ldukki district of Kerala. You can see the Munnar Tea Garden’s beauty far and wide if it is a cloudless day and get on Meesapulimala tops. An ideal spot for mountaineering is Meesapulimala which is more than 500 acres in area. From a place called silent valley the trek begins and goes in between forests and tea gardens.

HOW TO REACH

By Road: From all major towns in Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu direct buses are available. Kerala state is well connected by road.

By Train: The nearest major town with a railway station is Aluva from Munnar. You can hire a cab or board the transport of state or private buses wherever available from these points.

By Air: The Cochin international airport is the nearest airport. You can hire a cab to get to Munnar from Cochin.
