Located near Periyar and Thekkady is Kumily which is a small town in the Hill of Cardamom in Kerala in the district of ldukki. This boast of township of being the largest Gram Panchayat in the entire of Kerala that seated in the hill of Cardamom. Also this place is a major spice- trading centre other than being a major tourist destination. An ideal tourist town in Own country of God is Kumily and also is embraced by pleasant climate throughout the year. Extremely popular place is Kumily for its tea plantations and spice.

You will reach a pictorial village called Gavi which drive around 14 km from the Thekkady’s heart. Gavi is also known for its rich fauna and flora in addition to all these. Here, along with a garden and museum which a range of accommodations are available. Around some of the most commonly found species is Nilgiri Tahr, an array of avifauna such kingfisher, hornbill and woodpecker, elephant and lion- tailed macaque. Mangaladevi Temple
One of the oldest temples of the region is Mangaladevi Temple which is dedicated to Mangaladevi or Kannagi. One of the major attractions in this tourist place is the Mangala Devi Temple in Idukki. Every year this temple is opens only once to pay their respects by devotees to the temple’s deity on a full moon day in between the month of April and May. Construct within the premises of the renowned Reserve of Periyar Tiger within the northern boundary is Mangala Devi Temple in Idukki. This place is popular for the cultivation of its scenic natural terrain, herbs and species through a quaint little town with the enchanting River Periyar flowing. From the Thekkady located 18 km the large town of Vandiperiyar on the banks of Periyar River. Throughout the year, Vandiperiyar offers a satisfying atmosphere. Lover of nature can explore the Flower Garden and the Government Agricultural Farm other than in this region exploring the expansive tea and coffee plantations in fact which is a major source of income for the locals. In the town, a river makes activities such as fishing and boating possible.

Kadathanadan Kalari Center
A renowned center of the traditional form of Kalaripayyattu, martial arts that was invented by Sage Parshuram is Kadathanadan Kalari Center. The silent town of Ramakalmedu is Nedumkandom from here this city is located 16 km. ramakalmedu lies in the mountain region on the border of Tamil Nadu which is located alongside the road of Thekkady- Munnar. Also a best trekking destination is Ramakkalmedu. The highest point in this area is the view point on top of the hill. Due to this you can always feel strong winds you can also find windmills around the vicinity while in Ramakkalmedu. Ramakalmedu lies on the Tamil Nadu border in the mountain region.


By Road: The only and main approach which takes you directly to Thekkady is by road. The private or government buses run are the inexpensive way to get to Thekkady from nearby cities such as Kottayam, Cochin and Trivandrum.

By Train: In Kottayam is the nearest railway station to Thekkady which is located 114 km away. The railway station is well- linked to major cities.

By Air: Madurai is the nearest airport to Thekkady that located 136 km away. And the Cochin International airport is the nearest international airport to Thekkady.
